MeitY Signed e-Signature Pact with EU DG CONNECT
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India (GoI) and the Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) of the European Commission (EC) signed an Administrative Arrangement on Advanced Electronic Signatures and Seals to strengthen India–European Union (EU) digital cooperation in January 2026.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India (GoI) and the Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) of the European Commission (EC) signed an Administrative Arrangement on Advanced Electronic Signatures and Seals to strengthen India–European Union (EU) digital cooperation in January 2026.
- The agreement was signed by S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, and Roberto Viola, Director-General of the EC’s DG CONNECT.
About Agreement between India–EU:
Framework: The arrangement establishes a collaborative structure for the interoperability of electronic signatures, electronic seals, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) systems.
Compliance: The implementation will follow India’s Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, and remain consistent with EU laws.
Implementation: MeitY will execute the arrangement through the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA).
Digital Trade: India and the EU will link Trusted Lists to enable cross-border digital signing of contracts, invoices, and documents, reducing costs and time, boosting trust, and benefiting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
