About Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026:
Overview: WPL is a women’s franchise Twenty20 (T20) cricket league organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Teams: WPL featured five teams namely Gujarat Giants – Women cricket team (GG-W), RCB-W, Mumbai Indians – Women cricket team (MI-W), DC-W and UP Warriorz – Women cricket team (UPW-W).
Format: The tournament follows a double round-robin league stage followed by playoffs to determine the champion.
Prize Money: The winners RCB-W received a cash prize of Rs 6 crore, while the runner-up DC-W received Rs 3 crore.
First Edition: The inaugural WPL season was held in 2023 and was won by MI-W after defeating DC-W in the final.
Highlights of WPL 2026 Finals:
Chase: RCB-W chased 204/4 in 19.4 overs, achieving the highest successful run chase in WPL final history.
Captain: Smriti Mandhana led RCB-W and scored 87 off 41 balls, finishing as WPL 2026’s leading run-scorer with 377 runs.
Partnership: Mandhana and Georgia Voll (79 off 54) stitched a 165-run second-wicket stand, the highest in a WPL final.
Records: DC’s 203/4 became the highest first-innings total in a WPL final, and finished as runners-up for the fourth consecutive season while RCB-W’s win marked their second WPL title, joining MI-W as the most successful teams.
