About GOARN:
Overview: GOARN is a network coordinated by the WHO, established in 2000. It brings together over 360 institutions worldwide.
Framework: It operates under the broader United Nations (UN) Health Network framework, which is coordinated by the WHO.
Purpose: The initiative aims to detect, monitor, and respond quickly to disease outbreaks and public health emergencies.
Detection & Surveillance: It monitors global disease reports, signals, and alerts, aggregating information from WHO member states, hospitals, laboratories, and other institutions.
Capacity Building: It offers training, guidance, and expertise to countries and regions, helping to strengthen local and national public health systems and promoting best practices for outbreak response and preparedness.
