Former Union Railway Minister Mukul Roy Passes AwayOn 23 February 2026, former Union Minister Mukul Roy, Ministry of Railway (MoR) and a founding member of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), passed away at the age of 71 in Kolkata, West Bengal (WB). He was born on 17 April 1954 in Kanchrapara, WB.
About Mukul Roy:
Parliament: He was first elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) to the Rajya Sabha in 2006 and re-elected for a subsequent term, and he served as the leader of the TMC in the Rajya Sabha 2009 to 2012.
Ministry: In the United Progressive Alliance (UPA II) government under Prime Minister (PM) Manmohan Singh, he served as Minister of State (MoS) for Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) (2009–2011) and later as the 32nd Union Minister for MoR from March to September 2012.
