Manipuri Film ‘Boong’ Wins BAFTA Award for Best Children’s & Family Film
In February 2026, the Manipuri-language film ‘Boong’, became the first Indian film to win the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award for Best Children’s & Family Film at the 79th edition of the ceremony held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the United Kingdom (UK).

  • At the ceremony the trophy was presented by Paddington Bear from Paddington The Musical, and Bollywood actor Alia Bhatt attended as a guest presenter.

About the film ‘Boon’g:
Film: Boong is a Manipuri-language coming-of-age comedy-drama directed by debutant Lakshmipriya Devi and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under Excel Entertainment.
Plot: It follows a young boy, Boong, who embarks on a journey with his friend Raju to reunite his mother Mandakini with his father Joykumar.
Acting Honours: In the acting categories, Robert Aramayo won Best Leading Actor for his role in ‘I Swear’, while Jessie Buckley received Best Leading Actress for ‘Hamnet’, which also earned the Outstanding British Film award.
