Presided by: The decommissioning ceremony was presided by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOCINC) of Western Naval Command (WNC).
Decommissioned under: The submarine was decommissioned under the command of Lieutenant Commander (Lt. Cdr) Rajat Sharma.
Guest of Honour: Captain KR Ajrekar (retd.), the second Commanding Officer of the submarine, attended the event as the Guest of Honour.

Background: The submarine was commissioned into the IN on April 30, 1986 under the command of later Commander KC Varghese.
Variant: INS Sindhughosh is a variant of the Soviet Kilo-class diesel-electric boats, acquired by the Government of India (GoI) under Project 877EKM from Russia.
Key Enhancements: During the service, IN upgraded the INS Submarine to extend its relevance in modern naval warfare like: mid-life refits at the Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL)in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP) incorporated systems like: Panchiki Sound Navigation and Ranging (SONAR) and automated torpedo countermeasures.
Successor: It has been replaced by the 6 Kalvari-class (Scorpene) submarine, built indigenously by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) under the Project 75I.
