MIB Notifies TV Rating Policy 2026 to Enhance Transparency, Accountability & Credibility In April 2026, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) notified the ‘Television (TV) Rating Policy (TRP 2026)’, replacing the existing 2014 guidelines TV governing  audience measurement in India.Key Reforms in TRP Guidelines 2026:Viewership: As per TRP 2026, any viewership arising out of landing page will be excluded in viewership measurementGovernance Norms: The policy mandates that at least 50% of the Board must be independent directors with no links to broadcasters or advertisers, and prohibits consultancy roles to prevent conflicts of interest.Net-Worth: MIB has eased the minimum net worth requirement for a company willing to register as TV rating agency from existing Rs 20 crore to Rs.5 crore.Sample Size: As per the notification, TV rating agencies are now required to scale up their operations to 80,000 metered(m) homes within 18 months (6 months for existing rating agencies), with a long-term goal of 1.20 lakh homes.

Overview of Bharat Tribes Fest 2026 Held in New DelhiThe Bharat Tribes Fest (BTF 2026), a national celebration of tribal culture, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurship, was held from March 18 to April 5, 2026 at Sunder Nursery, New Delhi (Delhi).About BTF 2026:Organiser: The 19-day long event was organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) in association with the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED).Opening Ceremony: The festival was inaugurated by Union Minister Jual Oram, MoTA, in the presence of  Dao Ngoc Dung, Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, and Y. Thong, Vice Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.Launch: During the event, Union Minister Jual Oram launched ‘RISA: Timeless Tribal’, an exclusive  signature brand dedicated to tribal weaves and crafts. In the first phase the project features 10 clusters covering 5 tribal weaves, 2 embroideries and 3 crafts.Awards/Honors: On the concluding of the fest, top-performing tribal artisans and sellers across 10 categories including, Pottery, Cane & Bamboo, Jewellery, Cuisines, Gifts & Assortments, Metal, Naturals, Paintings, Textiles, and VDVKs.Outcome: The festival witnessed the participation of over 1.50 lakh visitors and generated Rs 4.5 crore in sales, reflecting the rising demand for tribal products.

ISRO Launches ‘Mission MITRA’ in Ladakh to Test Crew Safety for Human SpaceflightIn April 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched ‘Mission MITRA (Mapping of Interoperable Traits & Reliability Assessment)’, a high-altitude analogue mission from Leh, Ladakh, conducted between April 2 and 9, 2026, to gather vital data on crew performance and human factors for India’s Gaganyaan program and future long-duration space missions.The initiative, led by ISRO’s Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) in collaboration with Protoplanet Private Limited, aims to simulate space-like conditions to study team behavior, resilience, and communication for India’s Gaganyaan crew.About Mission MITRA:Objective: Mission MITRA is a week-long high-altitude exercise testing physiological, psychological, and operational performance under extreme cold, low oxygen (hypoxia), and isolation, with a multidisciplinary team monitoring safety and generating data for future human spaceflight.Crew: Four Gaganyaan astronaut-designates, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, Ajith Krishnan, Angad Pratap, and P. Balakrishnan Nair, participated in the exercise at 3,500 metres (m) altitude.Operational Interoperability: This study is targeted to generate vital understanding on the team inter-operability between crew (gaganyatris) and ground control teams and effectiveness of decision making under environmental and operational stress.

Indian Navy Commissions Third Nuclear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine INS AridhamanIn April 2026, Indian Navy(IN) commissioned its third indigenously built Ship, Submersible, Ballistic, Nuclear (SSBN), ‘Indian Naval Ship(INS) Aridhaman (S4)’, at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh(AP).The ceremony was presided over by Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD), who also laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT).About INS Aridhaman:Overview: INS Aridhaman is constructed under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project at Visakhapatnam. It belongs to the Arihant class, following INS Arihant (2016) and INS Arighaat (2024), and features enhanced capacity for submarine-launched ballistic missiles, with most technical specifications remaining classified.Builder: The ship was constructed at the Shipbuilding Centre (SBC), Visakhapatnam.Weaponry: Equipped with eight vertical launch tubes, it can carry either 8 K-4 Intermediate-Range Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) with a 3,500 kilometre(km) range or 24 K-15 Sagarika short-range SLBMs with a 750 km range.Indigenous Content: The vessel features approximately 70% indigenous content.

CASA Ratio Falls to 2-Year Low of 37.9% in Dec 2025 Quarter: RBI DataIn April 2026 , the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reported that the share of Current Account and Savings Account (CASA) deposits in total bank deposits declined to a 2-year low of 37.9% in December 2025 quarter, compared to 40.1% in December 2023.CASA ratio refers to the proportion of low-cost deposits (current and savings accounts) in a bank’s total deposits.Banking Trends:Savings Decline: The decline was mainly driven by savings accounts, whose share fell by 210 basis points to 28.9%, as depositors shifted to higher-yielding options like equities, Mutual Funds(MF), and gold, indicating a slowdown in deposit mobilisation.Deposit Growth: Bank deposits grew 10% Year-on-Year(YoY) to Rs 239.8 lakh crore, with savings deposits rising 8% to Rs 69.4 lakh crore and current account deposits increasing 10% to Rs 21.4 lakh crore.CD Issuance: Certificates of Deposit (CD) issuances by banks reached a record Rs. 15.5 lakh crore in Financial Year 2025-26(FY26), up 17% YoY, as lenders increasingly relied on market borrowings to support credit growth.

RBI Unveils Rs 2.54 Lakh Crore State Borrowing Plan for Q1 FY27In April 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released the indicative borrowing calendar for the first quarter (April–June) of Financial Year 2026-27 (Q1 FY27), under which state governments and Union Territories (UTs) are set to collectively raise Rs 2,54,509.The RBI, acting as their debt manager, has scheduled regular auctions to ensure a stable capital-raising process.Key Details of the Borrowing Plan 2026-27:Framework: RBI introduced the Benchmark Issuance Strategy (BIS) on a pilot basis this quarter to enhance transparency, provide greater clarity to investors, and stabilise state debt markets by allowing states to issue securities across pre-defined maturity buckets under a pre-announced schedule, creating more predictable and liquid markets.Pilot States: Nine states participate in the BIS pilot: Andhra Pradesh (AP), Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh (MP), Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh (UP).Borrowing Volume: The nine pilot states are projected to borrow Rs 1,53,900 crore under BIS, while remaining states and Union Territories (UTs) will raise Rs 1,00,609 crore through traditional market borrowing methods.
