In April 2026, Indian Navy(IN) commissioned its third indigenously built Ship, Submersible, Ballistic, Nuclear (SSBN), ‘Indian Naval Ship(INS) Aridhaman (S4)’, at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh(AP).
- The ceremony was presided over by Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD), who also laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT).
About INS Aridhaman:
Overview: INS Aridhaman is constructed under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project at Visakhapatnam. It belongs to the Arihant class, following INS Arihant (2016) and INS Arighaat (2024), and features enhanced capacity for submarine-launched ballistic missiles, with most technical specifications remaining classified.
Builder: The ship was constructed at the Shipbuilding Centre (SBC), Visakhapatnam.
Weaponry: Equipped with eight vertical launch tubes, it can carry either 8 K-4 Intermediate-Range Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBMs) with a 3,500 kilometre(km) range or 24 K-15 Sagarika short-range SLBMs with a 750 km range.
Indigenous Content: The vessel features approximately 70% indigenous content.
