DPIIT Notifies Revised Startup Recognition Framework to Strengthen Startup India Action PlanIn February 2026, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I) notified the revised startup recognition framework under the Startup India Action Plan.This move aimed at strengthening India’s innovation ecosystem and supporting the next phase of startup growth.Key Changes:Increase in turnover threshold: As per the new norms, the Government of India(GoI) has increased the turnover threshold for startup recognition from Rs 100 crore to Rs 200 crore.Inclusion of Cooperative Societies: As per the revised norms, cooperative entities like: Multi-State Cooperative Societies registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, as well as Cooperative Societies registered under State and Union Territory (UT) Cooperative Acts, are now eligible for startup recognition, subject to fulfilment of other applicable criteria.New sub-category: The revised framework has introduced a new sub-category of ‘Deep Tech Startup’ for entities working on cutting-edge (advanced) and emerging technologies.Eligibility Criteria for new sub-category: Considering the long gestation periods, high Research and Development (R&D) intensity and capital requirements of deep technology ventures, the GoI has expanded the eligibility criteria for new Deep Tech Startup category:Extension of Age Limit: The age limit has been extended from the existing 10 years to 20 years from the date of incorporation or registration.Increase in Startup Turnover Limit: Also, the startup turnover limit has been increased to Rs 300 crore.Key Restrictions on Use of Funds: During the recognition period, the startups are prohibited from investing in residential real estate, non-core land and buildings, loans and advances unrelated to the core business, capital contributions to other entities, among others.Tax Benefits: DPIIT has clarified that recognised startups, including deep tech firms will now have the option to apply for income-tax exemptions under Section 80-IAC of the Income Tax (IT) Act, 1961 subject to certification by the Inter-Ministerial Board.

Union Minister Amit Shah Launches India’s First Cooperative-sector taxi service ‘Bharat Taxi’ in New DelhiOn 05 February 2026, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Cooperation and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), launched India’s first cooperative-sector ride-hailing service ‘Bharat Taxi’, at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi (Delhi).The initiative aims to strengthen the cooperative sector, ensure driver ownership, and promote inclusive, citizen-centric mobility solutions.About Bharat Taxi:Overview: Bharat Taxi is a cooperative-led ride-hailing platform that enables booking of cars, three-wheelers(3W), and two-wheelers(2W), providing an indigenous alternative to private aggregator-based services.Establishment: Bharat Taxi is registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, established on 06 June 2025, and operates as the world’s first and largest cooperative-based ride-hailing platform.Management & Cooperatives: Bharat Taxi is operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited and major cooperative institutions, including IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited), AMUL (Anand Milk Union Limited), NCDC (National Cooperative Development Corporation), NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development), NDDB (National Dairy Development Board), KRIBHCO (Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited), NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India), and NCEL (National Cooperative Electronics Limited).Operations & Expansion: The platform began pilot operations on 02 December 2025 in Delhi-National Capital Region(NCR) and Gujarat, with plans to expand to all States and Union Territories (UTs) across India within the next two to three years.Driver-Centric Model: Drivers are known as Sarathis (charioteers) and are placed at the centre of ownership, operations, and value creation.Principle: ‘Sarathi Hi Malik’ (Driver is the owner)Revenue Model: Under this model, Bharat Taxi retains only 20% of total earnings, with the remaining 80% credited directly to the Sarathi’s (driver’s) bank account without any delay.Women Empowerment Initiatives:Bike Didi: More than 150 women drivers have joined the platform.Sarathi Didi: It offers a dedicated app window for women passengers, where rides are provided exclusively by women drivers on two-wheelers.Highlights of Launch Event:Recognition: The top five Sarathis were felicitated for outstanding performance, receiving personal accident and family health insurance of Rs 5 lakh, reinforcing driver welfare and cooperative ownership.Partnerships: During the event, nine Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with key public and private partners to strengthen operational integration, digital enablement, and service quality.

GoI, Nagaland Government and ENPO Signed Agreement to Form FNTAIn February 2026, the Government of India(GoI) signed a tripartite agreement with Nagaland Government, and Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO), an apex body which represents eight recognised Naga tribes of the six eastern districts of Nagaland, for the creation of Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) which will primarily focus on the development and governance of Eastern Nagaland.The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Cooperation and Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister (CM) of Nagaland, in New Delhi, Delhi.Key Details of FNTA:Districts Covered: As per the agreement, the proposed FNTA will be created for 6 districts of Nagaland namely, Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire, Longleng, Noklak, and Shamtor.Devolution of Powers to FNTA: Under this newly signed agreement, powers related to 46 subjects of the state will be transferred to the FNTA.Financial Support : Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed that the MHA will provide the initial expenditure for the establishment of FNTA.Other Key Features: The agreement facilitates, inter-alia, for mini-secretariat for FNTA chaired by Additional Chief Secretary/Principal Secretary. India Pays USD 35.18 Million to UN Regular Budget 2026; Joins ‘Honour Roll’In February 2026, the Government of India(GoI) paid USD 35.18 million to the United Nations (UN) Regular Budget for 2026. Following this contribution, India has now joined the UN’s ‘honour roll’ alongside 51 other member states who have paid their regular budget dues in full and on time.About India’s Contribution to UN:Total Assessed Contribution: India’s overall assessed contribution to the United Nations (UN) budget stands at USD 38.223 million, with USD 3.091 million offset against staff income taxes.India contributed 1.016% to the UN’s regular budget of USD 3.45 billion.Coverage: This contribution supports core UN operational expenses, excluding peacekeeping activities.UN Regular Budget Contributions:Total Budget Approved for 2026: In December 2025, the 193-member UN General Assembly (UNGA) approved a USD 3.45 billion regular budget for the UN for the year 2026.This newly approved budget covers the organisation’s 3 main pillars of work: peace and security; sustainable development; and human rights.Total Contributions: As per the UN Committee on Contributions, 51 member states have paid their regular budget assessments in full, within the 30 day due period specified in the UN financial regulations (as of February 04, 2026).
