Sagar Defence Delivers Maiden Unmanned Surface Vessels to Indian Navy 
In February 2026, Sagar Defence Engineering Private Limited (Sagar Defence), Mumbai (Maharashtra), successfully delivered first two Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) to the Indian Navy (IN), marking its maiden batch of USVs’ delivery.
Key Details of the USVs: 
Design & Navigation: It is designed for high-speed autonomous operations with advanced payloads. It features Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven navigation and real-time communication systems, can exceed 50 knots with stealth features to reduce radar signature.
Combat Capability: Equipped with a 12.7 Millimetre(mm) gun and provisions for short-range missiles and loitering munitions, the interceptor craft can counter small hostile boats, intercept fast targets, and conduct precision strikes, blending patrol and offensive roles.
Mission Capabilities: It offers multi-mission capabilities such as maritime surveillance, reconnaissance, and support to anti-submarine warfare, and is built with over 70% indigenous content.
Background: On 8 January 2023, a contract was signed for the 12 USVs between the IN and Sagar Defence for the indigenous autonomous boat swarm programme.
Alignment: The move aligns with the Government of India (GoI)’s initiative of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
