In March 2026, the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed the Record of Discussions (RoD) for Phase II of the Japan–India Cooperative Actions towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aimed at strengthening development interventions in Aspirational Districts and Blocks.

  • The agreement was signed by Rohit Kumar, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme at NITI Aayog, and Takeuchi Takuro, Chief Representative of JICA India.

About the Agreement between NITI Aayog and JICA:
Objective: The second phase aims to strengthen India–Japan collaboration to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by enhancing institutional capacity and improving governance systems at the district and block levels.
Framework: The initiative will be implemented under the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) and Aspirational Blocks Programme (ABP), focusing on evidence-based planning and stronger monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
