Overview of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to TN and and Puducherry on March 1, 2026
On March 1, 2026, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi visited Tamil Nadu (TN) and Union Territory (UT) Puducherry to inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay foundation stones for multiple infrastructure and development projects worth over Rs 7,100 crore, with a focus on regional connectivity and public welfare.
Infrastructure Projects: PM Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated to the nation, and laid the foundation stone of multiple projects worth over Rs 4,400 crore in Madurai, TN, aimed at enhancing connectivity, improving mobility, and accelerating regional economic growth.
National Highway Projects:

  • Marakkanam-Puducherry (NH-332A): Four-laning project with an investment of over Rs 2,100 crore; expected to cut travel time by 50% and strengthen connectivity to Mamallapuram, Kalpakkam Atomic Power Station, and Auroville.
  • Paramakudi-Ramanathapuram (NH-87): Four-laning project with an investment of over Rs 1,800 crore; will reduce travel time by around 40 per cent and enhance access to Madurai, Rameswaram, Dhanushkodi, and Indian Naval Station (INS) Parundu.

Outlay: PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 2,700 crore across infrastructure, education, health, mobility, and industrial sectors in Puducherry.
