- This represents a major milestone ever since the party was founded in 1955 as it breaches the previous record of 300 seats won in 1986 by late PM Yasuhiro Nakasone.
Coalition Partner: LDP’s coalition partner, Japan Innovation Party (JIP), known as Ishin secured 36 seats, bringing the total seats won by the ruling coalition to 352 and a super-majority of two-thirds of seats.
Opposition Parties: Opposition parties in total secured only 111 seats, with major opposition Centrist Reform Alliance winning only 49 seats (down from 167).
Voter Turnout: The voter turnout for this year’s election stood at marginally over 56% which is around 2 percentage points higher than last election.
