Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Malaysia:
Bilateral Engagements: PM Narendra Modi and Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim held restricted and delegation-level meetings, deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between India and Malaysia, established in 2024.
- They reviewed cooperation across sectors, including trade and investment, defense and security cooperation, digital economy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Semiconductors, infrastructure development, clean energy and tourism, education, health, and maritime cooperation.
10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum:During the visit, PM Modi attended the 10th India-Malaysia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Forum, held in Kuala Lumpur, to discuss trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
MoUs Signed: India and Malaysia signed several MoUs to boost bilateral cooperation. Key areas included AV co-production, disaster management, anti-corruption, UN peacekeeping, semiconductors, wildlife conservation, social security, vocational education, security, and health.
- An MoU was signed between University of Cyberjaya (UoC), Selangor (Malaysia), and Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), Jamnagar (Gujarat), on academic collaboration in Ayurveda.
Other Initiatives: India set up a Consulate General in Malaysia to strengthen diplomatic, commercial, and people-to-people ties.
- Thiruvalluvar Centre was set up to promote Tamil language, literature, and Indian culture in Malaysia.
- NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and PayNet of Malaysia agreed to link their payment systems.
