In December 2025, Gujarat Government, led by Chief Minister (CM) Bhupendra Patel, granted in-principle approval for the establishment of the Indian Artificial Intelligence Research Organization (IAIRO) at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

About Indian AI Research Organization (IAIRO):
Establishment: Set up as a non-profit Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
Partnership Model: The organisation is being established as a Public‑Private Partnership (PPP) involving the Government of Gujarat, the Government of India(GoI), and the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) with IPA as the anchor partner representing 23 leading pharmaceutical companies.
Funding: The total five-year budget of Rs. 300 crore will be shared equally (33.33% each) among the three partners, with the IPA contributing Rs. 25 crore in 2025-26.
Research: Focused on advanced AI research, development of AI-based products, intellectual property creation, and policy-driven studies.
Infrastructure: Operates on a hybrid computing model integrating on-premise Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) infrastructure with national platforms like IndiaAI Cloud.
