In January 2026, the cabinet of Andhra Pradesh (AP) government approved the Dagadarthi greenfield airport project in Nellore district, giving a major boost to the state’s aviation and industrial infrastructure.

About Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport:
Location: This newly approved airport is located strategically, offering seamless connectivity to key National Highway (NH) corridors, two major ports such as Krishnapatnam and Ramayapatnam, and prominent industrial clusters i.e. Krishnapatnam Industrial Area (KRIS) City and Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative(IFFCO) Kisan Special Economic Zone Special Economic Zone(IKSEZ) in AP.
Development in Phased Manner: The airport, planned in several phases, will be developed over an area of 1,332.80 acres of land.
- Phase-I is designed to manage 1.4 million passengers annually, with capacity scalable to 15 million passengers annually in future.
- The master plan features a provision for a future cargo facility to support industrial output and port-led trade in the region.
Key Progress: So far, the proposed project has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Request for Proposal (RFP) has been issued to invite private participation for development, operation, and maintenance under long-term concession framework.
