In January 2026, the Ministry of Electronics and Information (MeitY) inaugurated Param Shakti, a state-of-the-art supercomputing facility, at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)- Madras in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN).

About Param Shakti:
Overview: It is powered by PARAM RUDRA supercomputing system, which offers a peak performance of 3.1 petaflops, which can perform over 3.1 quadrillion (3.1 × 10¹⁵) calculations per second.
Purpose: The supercomputer is expected to accelerate research in many high-impact domains, including Aerospace engineering, Materials science, climate and weather modelling, drug discovery and molecular dynamics, advanced manufacturing and combustion studies, and nuclear sciences and computational fluid dynamics.
Developer: The hardware and software stack has been developed and built in India by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), under MeitY.
Integrated Data Centre: The Param Shakti facility includes 24×7 power backup, advanced cooling systems, and a fully integrated data center, supporting continuous operation.
