Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak Appointed as CJ of Jharkhand HC
On 2nd January 2026, the Department of Justice (DoJ), Ministry of Law and Justice (MoL&J), announced that the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, approved the appointment of Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak, a judge of the Bombay High Court (HC), as the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Jharkhand High Court (HC) under Article 217(1) of the Constitution of India (CoI), in consultation with the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
