BharatGen and L&T Arms Sign MoU to Build India’s Sovereign AI Compute Platform
In April 2026, BharatGen Technology Foundation(BTF) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Larsen & Toubro (L&T) group entities L&T Semiconductor Technologies Limited (LTSCT) and L&T-Vyoma to jointly develop an end-to-end Sovereign Artificial Intelligence (AI) compute platform for India.

- The MoU was signed in the presence of Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) to the Government of India (GoI).
Key Details of MoUs:
Approval: The initiative received approval under IndiaAI from the Digital India Corporation(DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

- LTSCT: It will design Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) and xPU (Processing Unit) platforms optimized for AI workloads focusing on high performance, energy efficiency, and scalable computing capabilities.
- L&T-Vyoma: It will provide AI/Machine Learning (ML) ready hyperscale data centre infrastructure including a 30 megawatt (MW) facility in Kanchipuram, TN for large-scale compute and orchestration.
- BTF: It will develop and deploy Large Language Models (LLMs), Large Multimodal Models (LMMs), and Small Language Models (SLMs) tailored for multilingual and India-specific use cases.
Collaboration: The BharatGen initiative unites leading institutions to develop generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions tailored to India’s diverse and strategic needs.
