India and Japan Forge Data Partnership to Power AI-ready Smart Cities
In April 2026, DataKaveri Systems, the commercial arm of Indian Institute of Science(IISc) Bengaluru’s Centre of Data for Public Good (CDPG), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ONESTRUCTION Inc., Japanese construction technology firm, to integrate construction data into Artificial Intelligence (AI)-ready urban data exchange across Indian and Japanese cities.
In April 2026, DataKaveri Systems, the commercial arm of Indian Institute of Science(IISc) Bengaluru’s Centre of Data for Public Good (CDPG), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ONESTRUCTION Inc., Japanese construction technology firm, to integrate construction data into Artificial Intelligence (AI)-ready urban data exchange across Indian and Japanese cities.
- The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the inaugural ‘Japan-India AI Strategic Dialogue’, co-chaired by Amit A. Shukla, Joint Secretary (Cyber Diplomacy), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Hanada Takahiro, Deputy Assistant Minister for Cyber Security at Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Key Details of MoU:
Digital Platform: As per the agreement, both organisations will jointly work to connect ONESTRUCTION’s openIBM platform, the globally recognised open data standard for construction information, with Intelligent Universal Data Exchange (IUDX) of DataKaveri, a platform already operational across 55 smart cities in India.
Key Target: This strategic partnership aims to make construction data such as: floor plans, utility layouts, and asset histories, flow securely into city-scale AI applications (apps).
Future Plans: Also, both firms will jointly explore AI use-cases focusing on combined construction and urban datasets, and pursue bilateral funding opportunities.
