Overview of ‘PESA Mahotsav: Utsav Lok Sanskriti Ka’ Held in Visakhapatnam, AP The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) celebrated “PESA Mahotsav: Utsav Lok Sanskriti Ka” from December 23 to 24, 2025 at Visakhapatnam Port Authority Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).The two-day festival marked the enactment of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) PESA Act, 1996, with PESA Day observed on 24th December each year to commemorate its anniversary.About PESA Mahotsav: Utsav Lok Sanskriti Ka:Inauguration: The Mahotsav was inaugurated by Konidala Pawan Kalyan, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayati Raj & Rural Development, Government of AP. Union Cabinet Approves the Expansion of Delhi Metro Rail Project Phase – V AIn December 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi approved the expansion of Delhi Metro Rail Project Phase – V A with three new corridors, marking a significant expansion of the city’s mass rapid transit network.What? Delhi Metro Rail Project Phase – V A approvedStations: 13 – 10 underground and 3 elevatedTotal Length: 16.076 KmTotal Cost: Rs 12,014.91 CrRoute_1: Rk Ashram Marg -Indraprastha Corridor – 9.9 Km – Rs9,570.4 CrRoute_2: Aerocity-Airport Terminal-1 Corridor – 2.3 Km – 1,419.6 CrRoute_3: Tughlakbad-kalindi Kunj corridor – 3.9 Km – 1,024.8 CrKey HighlightsNumber of Stations: Under the approved plan, 13 new stations including 10 underground and 3 elevated, will be constructed over a project duration of three years.Total Length: The expansion will add 16.076 kilometre (km) to the Delhi Metro network, taking the network’s total length beyond 400 km.Total Cost: Total project cost of Delhi Metro’s Phase –V(A) project is Rs 12,014.91 crore (Cr), which will be sourced from Government of India (GoI), Government of Delhi, and international funding agencies.Three routes: The Delhi Metro extension would cover the following routes:The Ramakrishna Ashram Marg-Indraprastha corridor will span 9.9 km at a cost of Rs 9,570.4 Cr.The Aerocity-Airport Terminal-1 corridor will cover 2.3 km, costing Rs 1,419.6 Cr.The Tughlakbad-kalindi Kunj corridor will extend 3.9 Km with an estimated expenditure of Rs 1,024.8 Cr.Environmental Benefits: The expansion is expected to result in savings of around 33,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.Phase IV: Construction of Phase-IV consisting of 111 km and 83 stations are underway, and as of now, about 80.43% of civil construction of Phase-IV (3 Priority) corridors has been completed. The Phase-IV (3 Priority) corridors are likely to be completed in stages by December 2026.Significance: A total of 12 metro lines of about 395 km with 289 stations are being operated by DMRC in Delhi and NCR at present. DRDO Completes User Evaluation Trials of Akash-NG Missile SystemOn December 23, 2025, The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), under the Ministry of Defence (MoD), completed the User Evaluation Trials (UETs) of Akash-New Generation (NG) surface-to-air missile system at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha.About User Evaluation Trials: Overview: UETs are the final stage of testing conducted by the actual users such as Indian Army (IA) and Indian Air Force (IAF) to assess operational effectiveness, accuracy and reliability, ease of deployment and handling, and performance under realistic battlefield conditions.Assessment: The Akash-NG system intercepted aerial targets at various ranges and altitudes, including near-boundary low altitude and long-range high-altitude scenarios.
