Jnanpith Awardee Hindi Litterateur Vinod Kumar Shukla Passed Away
On 23rd December 2025, renowned Hindi litterateur and Jnanpith Award awardee Vinod Kumar Shukla passed away at the age of 88 years in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. He was born on 1 January 1937 in Rajnandgaon(now in Chhattisgarh).

About Vinod Kumar Shukla:
Career: He wrote actively for over five decades and emerged as one of the most influential voices in modern Hindi literature.
Debut: His literary journey began in 1971 with the publication of the poetry collection Lagbhag Jai Hind.
Major Works: His prominent works include novels Naukar Ki Kameez, Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi, and Khilega To Dekhenge, poetry collections Lagbhag Jai Hind and Kavita Se Lambi Kavita, and the short story collection Pedon Par Kamra.
Awards and Honours: He was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999 for ‘Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi’.

  • In 2023, he became the first Indian to receive the PEN/Nabokov Award for Achievement in International Literature.
