History of Indian Coast Guard(ICG):
Establishment: In 1977, the Union Cabinet approved the creation of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), with 2 frigates and 5 patrol boats transferred from the Indian Navy (IN).
Legal Formation: The ICG was officially formed on 1 February 1977 under the Coast Guard Act, 1978.
