On 16 January 2026, President of India, Droupadi Murmu, has appointed Praveen Vashista as Vigilance Commissioner(VC) in the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) for four years or until the incumbent attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

Experience: He brings more than 30 years of expertise in law enforcement, criminal investigations, and internal security management.
Background: He is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1991 batch, belonging to the Bihar cadre.
State-Level Experience: He held key positions in Bihar, including Inspector General (IG) roles in the Economic Offences Wing and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), as well as serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) in districts such as Ranchi, Dumka, and Garhwa.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI): At the central level, he served in the CBI as SP and Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
Central Deputation: He occupied senior roles in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), including Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), and Special Secretary (Internal Security).
