Key Highlights of PM Narendra Modi’s Visit:
In West Bengal: On January 17 2026, PM Narendra Modi visited Malda to dedicate projects to the nation and lay the foundation stones for multiple rail and road infrastructure initiatives worth Rs.3,250 crore.
- PM Narendra Modi flagged off India’s 1st Vande Bharat Sleeper Train between Howrah (WB)and Guwahati (Kamakhya) (Assam) at Malda town railway station, Malda, WB. In addition to that, he virtually flagged off the Guwahati-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper.
- He also laid the foundation stone of 4 major railway projects in WB. He also dedicated to the nation, the electrification of the New Coochbehar-Bamanhat rail sections, enabling cleaner and energy-efficient train operations.
- He also virtually flagged off 4 new Amrit Bharat Express trains and two new train services equipped with Link Hofmann-Busch (LHB) coaches.
Extended Port Gate System: He laid the foundation stone of the Extended Port Gate System at Balagarh, including an Inland Water Transport (IWT) terminal and a Road Over Bridge (ROB).
Hybrid Electric Aluminium Catamaran: He also launched a 50-passenger hybrid electric aluminium catamaran, developed at a cost of Rs 12 crore, marking a significant milestone in the transition toward green inland water transport.
- He also flagged off a new passenger train between Jayrambati and Maynapur and 3 Amrit Bharat Express trains.
In Assam:
Bodo Cultural Programme: On January 17, 2026, PM Narendra Modi attended the ‘Bagurumba Dwhou 2026’ at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati, Assam.
Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project: On January 18, 2026, he performed Bhoomi Pujan of the 86 km-long Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, a major infrastructure initiative worth over Rs 6,950 crore during an event held in Kaliabor, Assam.
- During the event, he virtually flagged off 2 new Amrit Bharat Express trains.
