A temporary leadership council has taken charge after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death. It's made up of Iran's sitting president, head of the country's judiciary and a member of Guardian Council chosen by Iran's Expediency Council. An 88-member panel called Assembly of Experts appoints the Supreme Leader. The Supreme Leader must be a senior Shia cleric and scholar.
