Why was Sunday chosen as weekly holiday in India?
The weekly Sunday holiday in India officially began on June 10, 1890 following the efforts of labour rights leader Narayan Meghaji Lokhande. Sunday was chosen as weekly holiday as British officials, who governed India were Christians, and Sunday was traditionally observed as a day of prayer and church attendance. In Hinduism, Sunday is associated with Lord Khandoba in certain traditions.
