About the MoU and Consortium: Under the MoU, GRSE and HSL will collaborate on the design, construction, and delivery of ships for national requirements. The consortium approach aims to leverage the complementary strengths and infrastructure of both public sector shipyards to execute large and complex shipbuilding projects efficiently.
Objectives: The partnership seeks to accelerate the execution of strategic shipbuilding projects, enhance self-reliance in defence and commercial shipbuilding, optimise resource utilisation, and support the Government of India’s push for Atmanirbhar Bharat in the maritime sector.
Significance: The formation of the consortium is expected to improve project timelines, cost efficiency, and quality, while boosting domestic shipbuilding expertise. It also aligns with India’s broader vision to emerge as a global shipbuilding hub and reduce dependence on imports for naval and maritime platforms.
